I can be dead, dead asleep, sleeping the sleep of the righteously asleep, but the second I hear the buzzing whine of a mosquito? I'm wide awake.
No, seriously, I hear that sound and I'm fully, completely, could save the world in that instant awake.
The real question here, of course, is not "why the heck do they always wait until I'm completely asleep to sneak into my room" but "how could I use this to my advantage?"
I mean, what if on all those mornings I just can't drag myself out of bed I had a mosquito trained to come wake me up? Maybe I could turn into one of those people who wake up early and go for long runs if I had a trained mosquito.

Funny you should say this, as I was awake at 2am this morning because one of the evil little ****ers was buzzing past my ear.
My stay in Venice was the worst tho.. it was so hot all the windows were open, and so in came the mozzies. In the end, despite the heat, the only way I could sleep was to cover my head with the bedsheet all night.
You can get ringtones for mobile phones that are so high-pitched only teenagers can hear them - they use these in schools to beat the teachers, as our ability to hear high pitches shrinks as we age - so I'm sure someone out there has a mosquito ring by now too..
Maybe the same mosquito that was after me flew really fast to get after you! (Or the reverse, I guess, time wise) ;)
Oh, and I found the high pitched ringtones on the internet the other week, hideous, hideous noise that I can't get out of my brain!
I am very allergic to mosquitos. Enough that I chose not to go camping this year and may never go again. When I used to hear them buzzing around my head at night, I would get up and spray myself down with Deet. Fortunately, when I was last in India I found this lovely anti-mosquito cream so now I rub that on my head and hands and go back to bed. I figure that stuff can't be as bad as Deet, right?
I get super HUGE reactions to mosquito bites and they itch forEVER and ick, so yeah, anything that doesn't smell like Deet would be welcome! ;)
Mee too! I went to the allergist to get tested for various things and the mosquitos and bed bugs itched for days. It was heinous. I regret now that I am a science nerd and it turns out that the stuff in the Indian cream is pretty close to Deet (N,N-dimethyl-m-toluamide - N,N-diethyl-3-methyl-benzamide). It's N,N-diethylbenzamide or Deb. Yipes. Oh well, if I die of cancer at least that shaves off the years of bug bites! Gah.
Okay now I am being an enviro nerd. Apparently the EPA doesn't think Deet is that bad if you use it properly and not on young children. Sorry to have hijacked your comments here! Stupid mosquitos!
Lol. No worries. Yay for enviro-science nerdery! ;)
Could you perhaps have some sort of timer on a mosquito tank?
Sounds like a grand scheme to me.
Useless trivia #28 (or thereabouts): Mosquito repellents don't repel mosquitos, they just mask your scent so they can't find you to bite you.
Mosquitos are allegedly attracted more to people after they've been eating bananas (the people, not the mozzies), and have a harder time finding you if you eat citrus fruits.
Raz, that's the best worst idea ever! lol
Dominic, so I should be on a citrus only diet then, eh? ;)
