The Light

I think many of us here have been holding our breath waiting for forest fire smoke to hit us.  We've had some bad summers of it and are expecting to have to deal with it this summer too as the heat we've had all up and down this coast makes for prime fire season.  Sigh.

Yesterday the light had that familiar orange tinge, but just... gently.  The air quality indexes said there was little to no issue but you could see it in the light.  Smoke particles high up in the air.

The light sets of a series of memories for me, most notably Burning Man related.  Because, yes, it is that time of year - it may always be "that time of year" in August, especially if I stay connected to my Burning Man friends...

No, it's not happening this year but some folks will go to the desert and camp and make do.  I will not.  Most (all?) of my friends will not, but some will.

But that's not the point.  The point is that for us, this light generally only occurs in Summer.  And I've had a few travel years where this light accompanied us on the trip and a year or two on playa with smokey air and this tinted light.  Memories are a funny thing and at this time of year there are a lot of my senses that get triggered and make me think of Black Rock City.  Smells, sights, and apparently the yellow orange haze of forest fire smoke high up in the air.

Even though the AQI says things are fine, I've been running my (new!) air purifier.  It's why I bought it after all and I have fan noise going anyway so a little extra noise that also cleans my air?  Sure, why not!

Anyway.  It's August.  Happy August.  Stay well... in all ways.

How is the air purifier working out? I used to have one, but it couldn't keep up with the amount dust that my apartment apparently produces.

So far so good? I think? I'd really like one that told me how much it was filtering. I'm not running it every day either... so... *shrug*?
