Fall is definitely approaching. Calendar wise it arrives... well, now! But nature wise it's been arriving in small increments but also sort of feels like all at once.
The shortening days I notice first of all, being sensitive to that. Dusk falling a little bit earlier than in the height of Summer. And lately? Mornings. A little bit less bright. And while I can argue with myself that that is due to cloud cover or smoke or waking up a bit earlier, it is legitimately the days shortening on both ends.
But this last few days or week it has been the temperature that has shown me Summer is all but gone.
First I started to be able to sleep with more than just a sheet. But still every few nights I'd be back down to the sheet. But maybe only for part of the night.
It's been a while since I went to bed with just a sheet, and lately, the last few nights, I've pulled up my weighted blanket too.
During my quiet days, the sarong started to be too chilly, so I switched to pj pants and a top. Then I added socks. On Saturday I switched to track pants (and socks and a hoodie).
I brought out the next blanket layer. But it was too warm for it. At least once.
The window coverings are taken down (now it's just the blinds, not the other covers for the really hot days) with the exception of my biggest window (and heaviest cover) and that's very much a *just in case* sort of thing. Fans are still out but haven't been used in a few days. I don't want to be the person who puts their fans away and causes a mini heat wave!
Next, I suppose, will be the box fans... then the air conditioner (it already hasn't been used in weeks, although I have used it as a fan only a few times, and I disconnected the air intake during the smoke time), then the personal fans, and then more bed coverings. Warmer fuzzy pjs will be out sooner than I think and the truth is all of a sudden it will be October (stores are already suggesting as much if you know what I mean nom nom nom.)
This weekend was the first time I remember thinking how lovely it is to be chilly or cold. It's not ACTUALLY cold, but just to feel the need to wrap up, it's been so long. It's much more comfortable for me... easier to warm up than to cool down (for my body system anyway.)
