Always The Feet

The last week or so I have had really poor sleeps due to temperatures in my bed at night.  (Or lack thereof!)

I'm sure I've mentioned that I can't sleep in a warm room so I rarely have heat on in my bedroom and I compensate with layers of blankets and adjusting the window situation.

Well that's fine when temperatures are in the positive, but when we get into the negatives, as we have done at night most of last week, things can be hit or miss.

Mid week last week some time it was REALLY cold at night.  Or, I guess, relatively really cold.  Negative 5 with a windchill down to negative 12.  Cold.

I had my windows shut and blinds down.  ALL the layers on my bed.  And still... I could not fall asleep because the lower half of my body, especially my feet, was too cold.  I swear I didn't get more than a few hours sleep because I was so damn cold.  But I didn't get up to "deal" with it, however that might have worked, because I kept just trying to fall asleep.  Sigh.

So after that, the next night I did the same, but added the radiator heat and I threw my fuzzy bathrobe over my feet and still... even with my upper half overly warm, my feet were too cold and I had a lousy non sleep.  I woke up the next morning and I was roasting.  It had gotten up to 21 in my room and I was far too warm, but the night before?  Too cold.  Somehow.  I don't know.

The next night, I tried to fall asleep with socks on but they were REALLY annoying.  So I got up, made a hot water bottle and stuck it at my feet.  Too hot (yes, I have Goldilocks feet I know).  Moved the hot water bottle away from my feet and that seemed to give enough warmth to the area that I could fall asleep.  Ok.  Good.

Didn't use the bottle the next night... had troubles. Even though it was several degrees warmer that night.

I'm... so confused.

I was babbling to a friend about it and they offered to loan me a wool blanket... already using one.  A fleece?  Already using one of those too.

My parents used to heat up their beds with an electric blanket and turn it off once they were going to sleep and I guess that's kind of what I was doing with the hot water bottle, but I do also wonder if it's a circulation thing.  I'm not clear why the "WAY TOO COLD" is just around my feet.....

So we're apparently going to have another cold night this week and I think maybe I should just preemptively make a hot water bottle at night for my cold feetsies.  I just don't know why they don't warm up when I'm covering them with so many helpful layers and like trying to make things warm enough.

I wish my body was a little less picky when it came to falling asleep, but here we are.  Brrrr.
