I Was In Bed!

I yelled at someone last night.  On the phone this time.... as opposed to out my window (at potential car thieves... I've done that before.... ahem).

Most people I know agree that you don't call someone post... say.... 8:30 or 9pm?  (or so) unless it's an emergency (or you're drunk and weren't paying attention to the time I guess.)

So when I was in bed last night, reading my book, and getting sleepy enough to hopefully fall asleep, it shocked me to have my land line ring.  It was quarter to eleven.

I rolled over, grabbed the phone, looked at the call display and it was a non number... as in, not a real number and not a known number, so I figured a scam call, and I wasn't impressed.

But JUST in case it was a real human (for some reason?) I didn't pick up yelling.  I picked up and didn't say anything for a while.  I heard something on the other end.  I "pretended" to have been asleep and mumbled "hello?"  someone said something unintelligible.  I said, fake-groggy "you have the wrong number" and I hung up.

They called back *immediately*.

This time, my adrenaline went off and I picked up the phone and said very angrily and very loudly "HELLO????"

They mumbled something again, something sort of like "is mumblemumble there?" It wasn't ineligible.  I was furious (thanks adrenaline, you jerk... for not knowing real danger vs a late night unexpected jarring phone call.) "NO!  And DO NOT CALL BACK HERE IT IS THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!" and I hung up (I do miss being able to slam down a phone... progress isn't always the best).

And then I sat there waiting to see if they'd call back...

Minutes ticked by and I was still stressed and angry and wide away and anxious now (with the anticipation of the phone ringing again).

Eventually I went back to my book and tried to calm down again and eventually I did turn out the light and fall asleep but it bugs me that this happened and they weren't even very good at whatever they were trying to do?

I even have some kind of thing on my phone line that's supposed to stop scam robo calls (plus I'm on the do not call list) but scammers find ways through.  Sigh.

And I know that technically 11pm is not really "the middle of the night" but once I'm in bed I'm like.. done, and phone calls and/or yelling at people wakes me right back up and I do not like it!  So I hope they got the point and don't call/try to call my number again.

Oh and in the morning I did try to look at the number to see if maybe there was a tiny tiny possibility that it was a real human calling but it wasn't even an actual number, it wasn't the usual seven or ten digits it was just a random collection of numbers that didn't even result in a google hit.

Sigh.

I tend to get these calls at 5AM.

I am not particularly polite when I answer.
