So I got a book out of the library by an author whose other stuff I've enjoyed (and it also has been turned into a Netflix show) and so I figured I'd give another novel by her a chance, even though it wasn't the same character(s) from her other, related books. But I hoped it would be a good read nonetheless!
I started reading the book a couple of nights ago and I was a couple of chapters in when something happened that is significant in the story (like beyond the basic intro to characters stuff) and my brain went "well this feels familiar".
I paused for a moment to consider what else I might have read that was a similar story. But it was the strangest feeling like "I've read this before" and then "did someone write a very similar story?" Hmmmmm.
The next night I kept reading, assuming that that was just a one off of a weird scene but then another thing or two felt familiar in my mind. I started to really wonder if I had maybe somehow read the book before?
But it's not that old of a book, it's from like 2018 and I didn't recognize the cover at all and so yeah, I'm sure I haven't read it before. But... maybe I should check? Because it's not a book I would have bought, so if I had read it before, it would have been through the library and they keep track of your sign out history.
Sooooooo um.... I just checked my sign out history and um... in 2019 I read this same book. YOU GUYS!
So I blame like the stress of Covid lockdowns in 2020 for wiping the book from my memory just enough that I thought I'd never even seen it before!
The bummer of it is I don't really remember how the book ends/goes but I also don't really want to re read it just to find out, you know? So I'll probably do a search for a plot summary type thing and I've already put a new book on hold to pick up and like y'all? I'm really not sure how this happened! Other than maybe I read her first book and then this was the only other one she'd released at the time? I should go look at her book release timeline. (Yeah, I looked, it still doesn't make sense, she had other books out before this one but I only just read them last year.... I have no recollection of why I tried this book when I did!)
Um, so yeah. Nobody copied the "forest scene", I literally just read it twice! D'oh!

I've done this same thing! Well, not entirely the same, since it wasn't from the library... I got the book from a used book store. My excuse is that it was a different printing, so had a different cover than when I read it the first time.
But it was the same kind of slow realization.
Isn't it the funniest feeling? Like do do do do do just reading along and then... hey.... I? No, can't be.... keep reading... do do do do... wait... wait... this is ALSO familiar! Hang on a second!
And yes, different cover is a totally legit reason!
