I generally don't eat breakfast first thing anymore. It tended to end up with me being nauseated and/or throwing up and that's a pretty awful way to start your day so now I have a cup of tea first thing with light cream and added collagen powder... so that has some protein and I have "breakfast" around 10/10:30 or so.
Someone (probably Jason?) told me a few years ago that if you can exercise on an empty stomach it boosts your metabolism and so a while ago I tried doing yoga first thing and wouldn't you know it, I got super nauseated after, so I stopped. And a while after that I tried going to the gym on an empty-ish stomach but that didn't go well either, so I stopped.
Well, this morning I figured I'd do some of the light stretching I've been doing for my neck (actually fairly challenging since I'm so tight in my upper chest/shoulders/neck area) BEFORE eating because surely it'd be fine. And, well, guess what? It wasn't!
I got through the 20 minute routine just fine (some minor shaking at the difficult parts as usual) and then when I sat back down on my couch I nearly had to run to the bathroom to throw up.
Sigh.
I admire and appreciate those of you who exercise first thing. My body doesn't seem able to do that.
Mornings and my digestive system are a delicate thing that I have to really baby, and that's a really weird thing to try to explain to people. (Oh, if I get up more than half an hour earlier than usual I will have to take stomach meds to stop things from getting ugly in a couple of ways. No... really. And no, I can't exercise on an empty stomach either. Seriously.)
So for me this was a small experiment I tried to test to see if my body maybe would accept some non-cardio type stuff.
It won't. Le shrug.
(It is funny though because I can walk around and even go to work and not have these issues. There is some sort of magical effort threshold I just can't cross, and I don't feel like experimenting with where that threshold is!)
