I just gave all my alcohol to my neighbour. (I asked first if a) they drank and b) they wanted it)
I haven't really had much to drink in years. I'm pretty sure I wrote about it but it first started with me having a drink and then feeling like I had a cold or flu the next day. So when that started happening I cut down.
So every once in a while I have a drink and I generally don't end up feeling great in the end.
Sometimes I'll just get grumpy and angry. Sometimes I'll get a headache or stomach ache. But, sometimes I'll get a little bit of a tipsy buzz and it'll be quite nice.
For a while.
Well this weekend I decided I'd have a drink. I haven't wanted to in ages, but I had alcohol in my fridge and I kind of felt like I should try this one drink that Jason had specially gone out of his way to get for me after I'd read about it.
I had the drink. I had the tipsy happy for about 40 minutes and then it faded. That's fine. And then I was ever so slightly still tipsy for another half hour or so. Also fine. No big deal.
And then I got a headache. Uh... not fun.
And even later, my stomach started to hurt. Le sigh.
And not for the first time I thought "is 40 minutes of happy giddy really worth all the rest?" And my answer for a while now has just been "no."
So I looked at the booze in my fridge, some of which has been there for over a year, some of which just for a few months and I thought "I don't want this in my fridge anymore" and that really there was no point in it continuing to just sit there and take up space.
I thought about dumping it all down the drain but that felt wasteful so I texted my neighbour and sent photos and asked if they wanted it. They said sure and came and got it and so that's that.
I'm not, like, abstinent, I'm not making a statement of sobriety, I'm not saying I DO NOT DRINK, I just... kind of don't really drink anymore.
I'll probably still have a drink here or there, but knowing it'll likely lead to a sore stomach and possibly a headache (the stomach is likely from the type of drinks I enjoy, to be fair... acidic type sharp maybe sour flavours... hello Cosmo type things) and maybe I'll still buy some again at some future point, but for right now, in a non dramatic way, I'm feeling like I don't really need to have booze in my fridge. And that's ok.

You might be having a allergic reaction to the alcohol?
That's sort of how I felt a few years ago when I first kind of stopped.
