Third Lesson

Had my third swim lesson last week and I feel like I got worse!

The focus of the lesson was the "side" breathing that you use in front crawl and even though I did it a little the previous lesson, for reasons I can NOT figure out, water kept getting in my nose this time.

I mean, yes, my cardio is not... er, not that great and so I'm not getting a lot of time in between the breaths or something but for sure my nose was out of the water when I was breathing in and yet still?  Water in said nose.  UGH.

I started trying to really pay attention in the last few minutes/laps of this going on and my only guess is that the water on my face was running down my face and kinda into my nose cuz it's not like I was breathing it in from below (if that makes sense.)

The very kind instructor said that some people use nose plugs and I've seen them before and thought they were so so silly looking but maybe it's worth me trying to see if I can actually improve my breathing when I'm not having to worry about "oh great, now I feel like I'm dying cuz water somehow got up my nose!"

I don't know.  She told me she used them all the time for synchronized swimming since they go upside down and stuff but I mean, I've never ever used one before so I have no idea but I guess it's worth a shot and I mean.... fitness and health right?  Not always pretty!

(Still somehow swimming sideways when there are too many things to think about so that's both funny and annoying!)

It might be worth trying at least while you're learning, since it would be once less thing to worry about during the forward crawl. Getting the timing right for inhale/exhale there is trickier than you'd think but worth it if you're looking to get in the swimming cardio.

Glad you're sticking with it.

Thanks, I'm going to try the "proper" breathing at least once more (only a couple more lessons left) and maybe with a nose clip thing?

I might see if I can improve my cardio and do lessons again in a year (if they offer them again) as I know my cardio (or lack thereof) is certainly a hindrance right now!
