I managed to get myself to an extra water fit class a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed the intensity of it, but near the end of the class it felt like I had a blister or something on one of my toes.
I hiked my foot out of the water when class was done and sure enough it looked like I had a blister that was lifting off. What the bleep?
I was kind of freaked out and made the mistake of googling on my walk home and the internet told me I had like swimmer's toe and the only thing to do was to stop being in water. WELL FARK!
This was another one of those "really rough" days for me as I feel like these water aerobics classes are something I must not hate as exercise as I've been going pretty consistently for a few months now and if my body was like, what, rejecting water? I was going to lose this thing. And I have always loved being in water and never had any issues so what the heck?
I did some research and figured I'd buy some "barrier cream" (might be a waste of money?) and "after pool" cleanser (in case it's a reaction to the chemicals in the pool water) but I also took a few days off to, I don't know, let things "dry out"??
And I fished out my water shoes that I use at the beach.
The combo of whatever I did or didn't do seemed to help and while that toe still gets a little weird, it hasn't felt or looked like a blister again (yet!?) so I think even the shoes are helping. (There was some suggestion on line that friction against the bottom of the pool may be part of the issue, since when you swim you don't kick off the bottom but I do my class in the shallow end and am spending 50 minutes with my feet pushing off the pool bottom.)
I ordered a new set of water shoes to keep the beach ones separate from the pool ones (plus my beach ones take a looooooong time to dry... they're old!) and when they arrived I was happy to put on the cute new purple water shoes to help me toes be more normal again (hopefully!)
And then? When I got in the pool? That's when I discovered that these new, unknown brand water shoes had absolutely NO traction against the floor of the pool! In fact, they slipped and slid!
So needless to say I had a fairly hilarious (to me) class of slipping and sliding and falling over (which is way more fun to do in the water than on land let me tell you!) and I'm sure I worked different muscles than usual and yeah that "twist your upper body" move sure was slippy without a grip on the floor!
They got returned, by the way and a new pair of branded name (same as my beach ones) is going to be ordered pretty soon here.
But yeah, that was an 'uh oh' moment of stepping in to the pool getting ready for class and being like Bambi on ice! Thankfully no one can really see what your legs are doing underwater!
