I Did It!

A couple of months ago my neighbour gave me the cutest little dish cloth she'd knitted.  It was adorable!

It was this little hand sized diamond (square) with a funky pattern around the edges and I was happy that she thought to give it to me.

She told me it was actually quite a simple pattern and sent that pattern to me and I thought it seemed simple enough even though I have never ever done a knitting pattern before.

I had to ask my Mom and then watch a video on it to explain YO (yarn over) and I have to constantly refer to the pattern.... it involves increasing (adding on more stitches) and then decreasing (taking away stitches) which, for the record I hate decreasing apparently.... but after some restarts because I thought I was completely screwing up (spoiler, I wasn't it just looks nasty at first!) I actually managed to make one myself!  I did it!  My first ever knitting pattern!

It's not as mindless as when I just knit straight of course, I have to actually pay attention to follow the simple pattern but it's been neat to complete something that is a little bit more complex than what I've always done!

So far I've made a large one and now a smaller one and I'm in the process of making two more and I'm also trying to not knit so tightly without really noticing I'm doing it until I start to try to reduce and it's like pulling teeth or some other metaphor that suggests "this is unnecessarily difficult".

So yeah, this is the kind of thing I should put in my happy memory journal eh?  Just realized that as I was typing this out and now I'll go and do just that.  Talk about the happy little diamond dish cloth I managed to make while following a pattern for the first time ever.  YAY!

Huge admiration! I used to crochet as a kid but I could never get the hang of knitting!
