I need a new name.
Not for me. Not for this site.
Not even for Huck (although I think maybe the name I dreamed for him might have been Michael or Mark. I think he could get away with being a Mark in real life, actually, but that's not the point of this now rambling post.)
I need a new name for the next guy I start to date.
I mean, not that there is a guy, I'm not saying that. (Although I'm not not saying that either, I'm just, well, anyway, stop looking at me like that I'm not saying anything!)
Anyway, at some point I'll have to meet someone and start dating them, right? I can't remain single for too long of a stretch (or else what would I write blog posts about?) and so if and when I do start to date someone, wouldn't it be nice if he already had a name and I didn't have to try to come up with one that made sense or whatever? (Because I've got to be honest, when I talk to people who know me both here and in real life [like B and S, who I got to hang out with this weekend, HI GUYS!] I start to get confused with who I named so and so and what's his name and why did I ever call him that anyway oh right, but really my brain can't hold too much more bizarre stuff in there holy smokes ramble much today?)
And therefore (yay, abrubt break!) I'd like some ideas from you in terms of naming my next possible .... (what do you call a guy you're dating? not "boyfriend" so, what? datee?) beau.
Make me proud y'all!

"Prospect."
You should do a post that's a glossary for all the nicknamed boyfriends (or "prospects"). I'm actually a little lost these days. Sort of a "Frequently Asked Questions" post. Or "The Story So Far..." type of jumping on point.
How about "HWMO" - as a counterpart to you as SWMBO? ;)
Haha - I call Noah my "sort-of boyfriend" but I doubt that helps.
Honestly? I think you should name them off some trait they have that reminds you of them but could never give away their identity, like how Martini nicknamed her boyfriend "Italy" because he's Italian. This of course means you cannot name them ahead of time. Anything you want to tell us?!?
McGone, you need a glossary? I'm impressed. That means I've dated more guys than I thought I had ;) Nah, I'll see what I can do. Eventually...
Laura, that's what I tend to do, name them off of some trait. And, no, nothing I want to tell you ;)
Dilling, tomorrow what???? Or, is that your name suggestion? :)
How about "cocoa"? Of course, we would have to poison my wife first.
How about: "Mr. oh!-how-did-this-happen"?
or if you are a little more desperate,
How about: "Mr. doesn't-smell-too-bad"?
Well Cocoa, since we're not going to poison your wife, "Mr. Doesn't smell too bad" is my second choice!
Heh.
SINCE YOU SAID "MAKE ME PROUD Y'ALL!" HIS NAME SHOULD BE MOUNTAIN MAN---THAT COULD BE FROM ANY MOUNTAIN RANGE OR ANY PLACE AND CALL HIM "MM" OR "M MAN"---JUST A THOUGHT HAHA.
That's a cute thought Janet! hee ;)
Mr Right Around The Corner?
He is???? ;)
*feels ignored*
Just a suggestion, how about Lucky? (as in Lucky to be a prospect for your affections?)
Or Beau/Bo?
:-)
Gosh Dominic, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to ignore you, I think I just spent so long trying to figure out what HWMO and SWMBO meant I forgot to ask! D'oh. Puhleaze forgive moi? (batting eyelashes and looking contrite)
Bunny, I love those two ideas! Lucky or Bo! :) Heh.
My family adores my friend Ben, who I refuse to date...much to their disappointment. Now they call every guy I date "not-Ben".
It generally goes like this:
Me: "Hey, I'm coming for dinner on Thursday."
My Sister: "Really? Great. (pause) Um, are you bringing not-Ben too?"
Me: "His name is Mike."
My Sister: "Right, whatever."
Not that I'm suggesting you name the next guy not-Ben. Or not-anything, really. Just that this post reminded me of that.
You know what? I can imagine that being annoying for you, but it's pretty damn funny from the outside! :)
Don't worry, I was never one to hold a grudge ;)
You never heard of a girlfriend/wife being referred to as "She Who Must Be Obeyed"?
Guess it must just be a Brit thing, then :)
Basil? BASIL!
;)
One of my guy friends refers to every guy I date as "Bob". At first I thought it was because he'd forgotten one of their names, but when I corrected him he explained that it was just too difficult to keep track, so he was gonna call them all "Bob". Um, yeah.
Auntie? I'm actually holding my side laughing at that thought.
"So, how's it going with Bob?" ;)
Er, hang on, Dominic, she who must be obeyed is Rumpole, not Fawlty Towers, right?
u should call him Kris. I have no idea why
Good to know. Sometimes the things you don't know why you thought them are the best :)
