Flickr Me This

When I first decided to start a blog, waaaaaay back in the sweet, sultry summer of 2006* I knew that I wanted to include photos in my blog.

So, to do that, I started a flickr account and have since come to really enjoy using flickr and being able to witness glimpses of people's lives through their photos.

But since my original intention for using flickr was to provide photos to go along with posts, that's what this post is about.

Well, to be more precise, it's about this photo. Because, for the life of me, I can't figure out a post that this photo would go with. So I decided on this post.

The one you're reading right now.

Yes, this one.

Tell me a memory you have from Elementary school. I'll go first.

I hated using the bathrooms at school. I can't honestly remember if I ever peed at school until, like, highschool.

Is that weird?

Ok. Now you.

But, um, you don't have to share about your bathroom habits in Elementary school.

And you also don't have to share about how scary that 'woman giving birth' video was and how it made you certain you'd never ever ever have a baby.

Or was that just me?

*Actually, I don't remember if that Summer was sweet or sultry. It just sounded like the thing to say.

You know, somehow, it never occurred to me that the post photos were on Flickr.. even with the Flickr slideshow badge thingy in the sidebar..

*ahem*

My first memory of elementary school (AKA Primary school here, of course) is of them trying to make me eat rice pudding. The poor fools..

But the memory that I've been thinking about lately is the snow & ice we used to get. We got weeks off in some winters because of the snow.. there were foot-long icicles hanging from the roofs and one drainpipe used to grow an inch thicker because of the ice that formed on it.

We never get snow like that any more :(

hmmm...memories from elementary school? Probably my favorite ones are of my 5th grade teacher, he's was a great science teacher and showed us all kinds of cool things like how to make a square bubble :) One day he also brought in one of those machines that produces electricity and when you touch it you hairs goes wild. We spent the whole day playing with it :) And one time he had us write out detailed instructions on how to make a banana split, then followed them to the letter. If you forgot things like 'open the ice cream container' then you wouldn't get ice cream. The results were pretty hillarious.

Elementary school. Hmmm. Lots of memories from those days, most of which I'd rather forget.

There was this time in grade two when I asked for extra homework. My parents tried to make homework fun for me and I was such a dork I fell for it, and had never realized how uncool that was until the other kids overheard me. Never really lived that one down...

I was one of the unpopular goody goody two shoes kids at that age. I don't really like to think back on it too often.

i probably have more elementary school memories than high school memories...is that weird?
the most surreal is one day, as i collected the "slow, school zone" flags from the upper end of the school field next to the road(I was a crossing guard!), three rather large ponies or small horses came galloping at me from the shrubs at the end of the field. They ran right at me, seperated around me, ran to the end of the field which was fenced. Here they turned around, ran right at me again, seperated around me and disappeared into the shrubbery again. The whole time I was waving those damn orange flags so they could see me(it made sense to me at the time...but so did those horses, so um, yeah... whatever, i was a kid!)and run me over. weird, eh?

I started off in a private Catholic school because my mum didn't feel comfortable sending her children to the local schools in the rather rough area of town were living in. Consequently, I was taught mainly by nuns.

There is one memory I have that stands out from all the others.

It was 3/4 of the way through second grade. With the exception of me and another boy in class, the students were all preparing for First Holy Communion. Sister Mary Petronella felt the need to call the two of us to the front of the room and explain to the class that since we were not true believers (Anglican/Episcopalian) and didn't love Jesus like the rest of the class, we could not be allowed to participate with the classes work for the next two weeks. How the class stared. Damion and I were told to pack up our desks and were escorted down the hall into a fourth grade classroom, where we were told to do our homework and reading and to not talk to anyone.

It was a miserable two weeks.

I also have never felt more singled out in my life for who I was.

Dominic, I used to get snow on my birthday every year. Can't remember the last time I did. *sigh*
Oh, and? Rice pudding? Ick! ;)

The Civilian, that could actually be a fun party trick! Get your friends to have a couple of bevvies and then write up instructions and then giggle at them when they forget to write out the obvious things like "open ice cream container!" Heh.
But isn't it awesome when a teacher makes you remember Science like that! I mean, square bubble, how cool is that? (As I sit here trying to figure out how it'd work) ;)

Awww Laura, that sucks that you don't have good Elementary school memories :(
I remember asking for homework too because my neighbours and brother had it and it sounded cool and grownup!

Dilling, that is the coolest story EVER! It's like a surreal scene from a movie. Awesome.

Una Voce Sola, that makes me sad and angry all at the same time. :(
I'm sending you a big hug right now. And I'm sending another for the little Grade 2 you as well! *hugs*

i remember in elementary school, i was locked inside a locker (yes, i was a little kid back then) by a mean teacher because i continued eating even though recess was over. i didn't say anything rude or talked back, but all i know is that she's very strict and she didn't like that i ate my biscuits in class. meanie.
