Oh

There are two blog post ideas sitting on my stickie note of posts pad but they both involve funny conversations I had with my Dad over the last month or so and I just don't quite feel like writing them right now.

So instead, how about you tell me what you think about Christmas cards.

I send them every year and it often feels more like a chore than anything else. (I like to send birthday cards to people but Christmas cards feels like a "have to" rather than a "want to")

I get cards back from some of the people and then I read them and put them up and then, eventually recycle them.

So I'm not really sure why I do it and if I need to or want to anymore.

So what do you think about them? Do you like getting them? Sending them? Would you mind if the whole tradition was scrapped?

I will send out maybe 5 cards. I only send to those I WANT to and that's it.

When I was married to #1, he said we HAD TO send to everybody in the world and that it was MY JOB as wife to address and sign ALL the flippin' cards.

Was very glad to get rid of that habit when I got rid of him!

I don't like sending cards cos I "have too". It is a chore.

This year, I sent out 40 cards just to my immediate family. Another 20 or so to friends and about a dozen to a few colleges.

I do not send birthday cards to anyone. That would be roughly 52 and some cards a year, a few a week. I simply can not do it.

I'm a much bigger fan of "just because" cards that I send cos something struck me when I saw that card etc... sent with a note of thinking of you, love you, or no reason at all, I just liked the card and thought of you. Those are the cards I find people tend to keep.

Next year, I'll send cards to family out of town and e-cards to everyone else, and continue with my "just because" cards.

Kas - Anyone who tells me I HAVE TO do something cos I'm the wife, the girl, or girlfriend would find himself single very fast. Not so much cos its old fashion sexist, more so cos I hate being told what to do, by anyone.

Whey they are just signed with the person's, I toss them. If they have a nice message directed to me, then I'll keep them. That's how I role =)

That should read with the person's name*

I really like Christmas cards, bot sending them and receiving them. The past 2 years I made all my cards myself, and sent them out. This year I couldn't face sending them, but I am sure that I will be back to sending them again next year!

Sounds like a good thing #1 is no longer around Kas :)

That's a lot of cards JS!

Gotcha Stephanie :)

Maybe if I took a year off it would help TL

I LOVE receiving and sending Christmas cards! To me it means someone took some of their precious time to personally sit down and think of me at this special time of year. It means more to me than a text or email. Our lives are so busy all year through and we unfortunately fail to communicate with people in our present lives and in our past. As I'm writing and addressing my cards each year...I personally with each one, sit down and have a personal memory that makes me smile about each and every person I'm sending my cards to, along with a special prayer for each of them. I will continue each year in this tradition.

I like receiving them, but I never do it myself. I just never have the time. And stamps are so expensive these days...
