Hockey

Last year my team made it to the final round of the playoffs and while it was all very exciting and hopeful, my Dad was also going in for his heart surgery right then and so my metaphorical heart was elsewhere.

Last week, I was pleasantly surprised to see the streets once again filled with Canucks flags and people wearing Canucks jerseys on the first day of playoffs.

I love the fact that we all come together to cheer on our team and it's these moments of togetherness that remind me just how much I like people.

I'm not sure we (and yes, we get to say "we" even though none of us are really out there on the ice with the boys) are going to make it past this first round this year, we're struggling, and to be honest, I don't want a repeat of last year's awful crowd mentality choices.

But I'm hopeful we'll go another round, because I love the spirit and energy of this town when we're all sporting the colours and waving the flags and hoping for the same happy ending.

I like the playoffs for that.

I'm glad for you (and your Dad) that he is doing better one year later. My Dad's had heart problems over the years, but no major surgery. I kinda know the feeling that you went through.

As for the streets being full of fans...I'm a Leafs fan...so I have no idea how that feels since they haven't been that far in my life time. Well, almost...it was the same damn LA Kings that beat them too (but it was Gretzky, so it wasn't as bad, but he still should have been kicked out cause of the high stick to the face...not that I carry a grudge since 1992). And one other time, but the damn Islanders beat them in the semi's on their way to a dynsty in the early 80's.

I was there in Skydome when the Jays won the World Series after Carter hit the home run. So, close to the same, but not hockey which is still my sport.

I'm glad too Elliott :)

I'm also sorry you're a Leafs fan, but... hey, you guys have a great, long history! :D

And how can you have a grudge against Wayne!?

And, being there for the Jays would have been amazing, I love the Jays!

One comeback game done, three more to go.

Sedin coming back sure made a difference, he elevated everyone's game, especially his brother's. And Schnieder was awesome in net, if he's going to play like that for the team, Louongo could find himself on another team in a hurry.

And how about the Pens??? 10-3?!?!? They sure looked like the Pens of old last night.

I've loved Schnieder over Luongo for a while now.... I'm just not sure anyone will take him with his massive contract!

If one of the Russians that the Flyers have for goalies doesn't soon learn how to stop a beach-ball, they could be looking for a goalie. And then there are the Leafs with our goaltending woes...

Wouldn't you know it? Finally a Canucks game on at a reasonable time on Sunday afternoon for us easterns...and we're going to see Nickleback in TO so I still won't be able to watch a game. That's got to be a sign they'll win on Sunday...

Well you enjoy your concert and I'll enjoy not watching the game and maybe that'll ensure the win! :)

Well, that was disappointing that they lost! On the bright side, there is a local guy on the Kings, so at least he and his family are happy.

The concert was great...lots of post-grunge rock. All the bands (My Darkest Days, Seether, Bush, and Nickleback) were on top of their game and were impressive.

We woke up to snow falling today! On April 23! After we've already played 6 rounds of golf and the grass needs to be cut again.

Have a good week.

It was kind of disappointing, but as we Canucks fans always say... "there's always next year!" :)

And you guys getting snow today? CRAZY!

Careful how you word that..."there's always next year" is a favourite mantra for Leafs fans. I'm sure you don't want to be pulled down to our level! At least you can say next year, we Leaf fans have been saying that since '67 (actually I haven't been because I was still a gleam in my parent's eye at that point). It feels like we've been waiting for a decade for playoffs - wait, we have been (almost).

And, yes, there was snow on the ground this morning. Now it's raining, but only 1C...

Ok Elliott, I just won't say anything then! ;)

1 degree? ONE? What...is happening? ;)
