A Neighbour's Idea

When we had our hot spell the other week, I ran into a neighbour outside and they asked how I was doing.  I was honest and said I was really struggling with the heat.

They suggested that in their place (a floor above me so probably hotter?) is pointing fans OUT.  As in, they have a fan that draws air from their apartment and blows it out the window.  I'm going to try this, because I mean why not.  So I'm adding a fourth fan to my apartment and not trying to figure out where I'll store it come Fall. (sigh)

Also trying to make sure my plugs are balanced and not overwhelmed as I only have so many outlets in this place.

I do hope it helps, and I do wish my system didn't mind the heat but oh damn, so far it really really has and I've been revelling in the slightly colder days we have had.

Any other cooling type hints?  (Someone suggested an ice bucket or something in front of a fan but I've already forgotten the details?)

My reading suggests that fans mostly cool you by blowing air over your skin, causing evaporation which feels cooling.

Unless it's a big industrial fan, it apparently doesn't really move enough air to "cool" anything.

But I dunno, more fans = feel better.

Yeah, I do for sure have a fan that's "me only" :D

(And I think from what I was looking at that really only an A/C is going to "cool" cool air... siiiiigh)

Most hotels ask you to keep the curtains closed during the daytime in the summer - it reduces the heat in the rooms enormously.

Yeah, I do use my blinds (no curtains) to try to block the heat and am actually considering putting up leftover Reflectix (that I didn't use in the van) to super block on my biggest window? It'll be dark but if it helps.....
