Buying

I have generally tried to buy local when I can, not just with food products but with what I can and can afford.  There are lots of "alternative" sort of shops around here and they often have these types of products out and around.

Now that economic stuff is going on between America and several countries, including the one *I* live in, I am paying a lot more attention to where my money goes.

I am buying the "made in Canada" chips instead of the US brand.  I have sourced beeswax lip balms instead of the American brand I have loved and used for years.

It's a little extra time (to check labels and sources) and it's not as easy and it's not as convenient/cheap and I'm not an expert economist to say if it will make much of or any of a difference to anyone "in charge" down in the states but I'd rather feel pride in my country than support the hatred and vitriol that is coming from down there right now.

Will I be perfect?  Likely not.  For example, I'm having a hard time with, I guess, cosmetics type stuff.  Like moisturizer.  My skin (especially my face) is very sensitive and specific and so there may be some things that I keep on buying that are still US based but where and when I can I will be putting my money elsewhere.

I've been happy to find, this last week or so, that most of what I *do* buy is local to Canada or made in other places (than the United States) and sold in Canada.

I'm sad and I'm scared and I'm angry and I'm disappointed and my spending patterns are likely a drop in the ocean but maybe if there are enough drops, someone will notice, I don't know.

I think it will make a difference. I see lots of threads on Reddit about people looking for Canadian alternatives to US products.

I've seen a lot on most of my social apps with people talking about it. I do hope it makes an impact, this all really hurts and sucks (to put it politely). Hugs
