The Playoffs

This last week or so I've watched a couple of hockey playoff games (at Jason's, I don't have cable.)

I grew up watching hockey, not religiously, but enough and I realized the other night that even without my glasses on (distance) I can still follow the flow of the puck and I figure this is because I have watched the game since I was little.  I was talking with Jason about when whatever network (Fox?) tried to bring the game to America and to, I dunno, make it easier for non viewers to follow they put weird visual "trackers" on the puck and it was horrible and I wasn't able to watch those games, but I did realize the other night that it probably is a little challenging to watch games if you're new to the sport - it can be pretty fast moving.

Aside from that, I half enjoyed one game and quite enjoyed the other.  The issue on the one game was I found myself quite stressed and anxious.  Which is no fun.  The second game, I was able to keep a bit more emotional distance and just watch.  I forgot that it can be fun to support a team and root for them.

I was never a super hard core sports fan, but I have, over the years, enjoyed watching baseball, soccer and hockey.  Football I have never enjoyed (and don't understand) although I did go to a Grey Cup when I was in high school - that was cool.

But yeah, I've watched a couple of recent games and had a not terrible time at least once!

I think it's easier to watch Canadian coverage, because they tend to follow the play not the puck (though the two are often the same). US coverage just focused on the puck and generally doesn't convey the flow of the game, so it feel disjointed?

Just my theory.

Interesting point! (I'm not willing to watch a US coverage game to see if you're right though!) ;)
