Yesterday we had a mid day thunderstorm (which we don't get here often) which was notable for the hail it brought and for the deepness of the rumbles. These thunderclaps shook my building and somehow felt like they were coming up from the ground. It was intense and fun, but tempered by the fact that the lightning would likely be causing forest fires.... sigh.
I was aware there might be more overnight so I wasn't surprised when I was woken up around 3am by flashes and booms.
I still wanted to be mainly asleep, so after a quick pee (why not, I was awake anyway) I lay in bed, facing the window with my eyes closed, still able to 'see' the flashes and counting the time til the thunder, "hearing" the storm move further away.
I half wanted to get up and check the lighting map I'd been looking at during the day but I more wanted to be able to fall back asleep at some point, so getting actively out of bed was voted down... by me.
I do enjoy a thunderstorm (from the safety of my place) but the new fires that have sprung up this morning make it not so much a happy enjoyable thing.
Sure there was some rain too, but we're still in a drought, there is still a bit of forest fire smoke in the air... we really didn't need the lighting to do any damage, you know?
