Second swimming lesson last week and the instructor upped the difficulty (kinda) which meant I got both better and worse?
See last time we focussed mainly on breathing out (under water, duh!) and near the end of the lesson at trying to limit the amount of breaths I'd "need" to take in (out of water of course!)
As that lesson progressed I was able to breathe out for a lot longer (up to 7 second count) but the breathing in was a few breaths still.
This time she had me working on limiting the breathing in to one breath and that was ok after a while - my cardio was off when I arrived and it was like I couldn't breathe properly at all... maybe nerves? Maybe a rough week?
Then she had me try to turn to the side to breathe rather than lifting my head up (this is all with a kickboard mind you) and that was just like not great! It's never been something I'm comfortable with but do want to learn so I kept trying, but what I noticed was that trying to just take one breath would limit the amount of time I'd feel comfortable breathing out but hey it was working so no biggie, but adding in the "side" breathing kind of messed everything up.
I think I'm moving my head too much so there's maybe too much thinking going on but yeah, this whole "learning to breathe" with water thing is tricky, no wonder I've kind of avoided it all my life, ha!
I did also get goggles which kept me from going sideways into the wall but which also left me with marks under my eyes. WHICH, I shouldn't have had as I loosened the strap all the way. I followed online instructions and at home they still felt too tight even fully loosened, but once I got in the water and moving they didn't stay on. BUT THEY STILL GAVE ME WEIRD MARKS.
So... I'm not sure about goggles now. I mean they help but they also weren't great and maybe I'll try another pair but am I over-committing to swimming maybe? (I mean my suit doesn't fit well and is probably a billion years old but I don't think it's wise to buy another one quite yet, you know?)
So I mean the summary of lesson two was that I managed to get my IN breath to just one rather than a whole bunch, so we'll take the wins where we get them I guess.
