Question

False Horizon by foundimagination
Are there certain things you would confide to a boyfriend/girlfriend but not to your best friend?

Would that change if your boyfriend/girlfriend was your spouse?

Or maybe the reverse... are there certain things you'd talk about with your best friend but not with your significant other?

And does that change the longer you're together?

I think you share a lot less thoughts about mundane things as the years go by. You kind of "know" what each other thinks about things, and you tend to debate less.

I'm probably making no sense.

The great thing about a loving, trusting, giving reelationship is the ability to share unconditionally and without even thinking about it. Your spousiod should be your ultimate confidante and your best secret-keeper. I think this makes every day interesting wityh the person you love. It is the ultimate freedom to give the gift of yourself whether it is shjaring your most intimate secrets or being the keeper of someone else's.

I don't tend to confide near as much to friends as I would a lover...

Peace,
Allan

Based on my past relationships (at least one of which was very good and healthy), I'd say that there are some things that I would share with only my significant other and other things that I would share with only my best friend. This would have nothing to do with being secretive towards either my significant other or my best friend, but rather would be due to the fact that I get different things from different relationships. The things that my best friend would be interested in hearing about and able to offer good advice on would likely be different from what my significant other would be interested in/useful for.

Although this is all a bit of a moot point because 1) I don't currently have a significant other and 2) I am not so interesting a person that I have big secrets to keep from anyone!

I think time tends to make secrets seem less and less important. With old friends, or spouses — anybody who's been with you a lot — there's less need to keep secrets. They become unimportant against the weight of shared experience.

Some people might want to get them all out in the open, some people just let 'em fade away. Whichever; not much stays hidden in the long run.

I don't know if I mean secrets so much as just, are there conversations you'd have with one but not the other?
