Well Then...

I have a couple of shows I've started watching (online) as their new seasons have started.  In this particular case I'm talking about the latest seasons of Grey's Anatomy and This Is Us.

I enjoy these shows - they're guilty pleasures I suppose, and I've kept up with the characters and stories as one does.

This year, both shows (and others I assume) have found a way to safely shoot new episodes and they have written the Covid pandemic into the story lines.

I am uncomfortable with this.

I understand it, and I have read interviews with folks on or involved with the shows talking about the choice to do so and/or the obligation they felt to encourage mask wearing or tackle the impact of the virus and so on but again, in that selfish way, I just want escape.

I suppose I will get used to it as the season progresses, or I won't and I'll save watching these shows for another time... we'll see.

I just right now am having a hard enough time coping with the fact that we are all (ahem) wearing masks.  The fact that I go out and see people in masks.  Because part of me is screaming that WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE WEARING MASKS.  As in... this is not a reality any of us signed up for (well, I mean, with the exception of all the workers who have always worn masks, but you know that's not what I mean...)

Part of me HATES that this is happening.  Part of me is still in some form of (weird) denial.  Part of me is sad.  And of course part of me is very scared.

So it's.... hard? to watch these escape-my-reality shows bringing that actual reality I don't like into their storytelling.

But I'm just one person and everyone's entitled to their opinion and take and feelings about it.

It's weird, if nothing else in a world that is already weird and has been extra so for a while now.

Escapism isn't very good when they combine it with reality. :(
