(Radiohead, right?)
Soooooooo the grocery store I frequent the most was selling off their cotton candy a while ago (a month? two? three???) and I figured "well why not?!" and picked up a container of the pretty cheap stuff, figuring I'd have a taste and be like "ok, that's enough".
But... it was really really good.
I don't know how you make cotton candy better or worse but this stuff was GOOOOOD. So I bought more. Shared it with Jason. He agreed about how good it was. We... may have cleaned out the store between the two of us!
And they took away the display (probably why they were selling it off "no rainchecks") and the two of us were still jonesing!
And, well, I'd like to say that we acted like the mature, grown adults we are buuuuuut..... we kept looking for cotton candy.
I ordered some from an online retailer while I was buying other stuff. It wasn't as good. He found some at a local pharmacy. It wasn't as good. But we ate the "not so good" stuff anyway. Ahem.
At some point I made a joke about gourmet cotton candy and Jason claimed that really fancy restaurants would make it as part of a fancy desert and I jokingly said "I wonder if there's organic cotton candy!" ha ha, but I did then wonder and I googled and y'all? There is organic cotton candy. !
But... no way I was buying any. Right?
RIGHT?
Um, not right. I totally splurged and bought organic cotton candy. Made, if you're curious, from organic cane sugar and natural colours and flavours. So all very subtle colours (light pink, basically white, light orange, whatever) but... and here's the part that surprised me. I did not like it.
Y'all, I am a sugar fiend. I love the stuff. Always have. Know it's bad for me in a bunch of ways but I love it. I really assumed I could eat any and all cotton candy (really just sugar with dye and colouring) but this stuff? I actually could not. I don't know how to explain it other than there was too much flavour?
Like with regular cotton candy it tastes like sugar with a hint of some kind of unknown flavour and it turns your tongue whatever colour. It's just SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR, and still, some is better (fresher?) than others.
But this stuff? It was like... flavour with a hint of sugar? And even though the flavour was good, I did not like it.
Jason, mind you, ate all but one flavour (birthday cake... ended up putting it in the compost) I thought I would love it and I did not. Go figure.
But now I'm having to cut myself off of ingesting pure sugar at a rate that was quite stunning, and to quote a lady in one store when we were buying stuff "I don't know how you can eat that!" Um, yeah... I'm embarrassed to admit that I do...
But I'm trying not to. It was feeling a little out of hand!
So, yeah, when it comes to sweets, I can't really trust myself and I really have to balance enjoying a treat with keeping myself healthy and well.
Whoops.
