The Heat

The heat's here.

And I'm trying to ignore it while also trying to manage it and live in it.

Yesterday was our first warm day of the summer really and the start of at least another week of elevated temperatures and my plan knowing this was coming was to "deal with it differently than in other years".

I've got food prepared and ready to go for the week (so I don't have to cook) I'm not overly stressing about the thing I can't control (the heat) and I think I have reasonable routines down at home to manage the temp inside as best I can (fans, portable A/C, blinds and blankets and stuff over the windows.)

But then last night I didn't sleep.

I thought I'd be ok but then I lay there for an hour or two not falling asleep.  I then took some melatonin (per doctor's suggestion) at like 1 in the morning and I guess I got a bit of sleep here and there but when I woke up this morning I was in a miserable state and kind of panicky about dealing with this for who knows how long.

I hit my fan noise wall last night but figured it was ok to open the windows back up as it was night and so slightly cooler out.  My bedroom was warm when I went to sleep but I thought I was ok with that.

Maybe it was a one off and I'll be fine tonight and tomorrow night and all the rest but right now I feel so defeated and scared and so I'm just telling myself I'm going to take this heat one day at a time.  I'm not going to focus on the entire summer or even the entire week plus, just I'm dealing with today and tonight (right now just today day) and I hope I do ok but man oh man poor sleep really messes with me in kind of not good ways.  (And yes, I've talked to my doctors and other practitioners about it.)

So yeah, the heat is here and so far not so good for me.

The last week of June was brutal here...over 40C with humidity for 7ish days in a row. Bit of reprieve, but the last few days has been ticking up there again with humidity. Supposed to get the remnants of Beryl through here Wednesday.

I know you're not a heat fan so I hope you're doing ok. Stay as cool as possible.

Oh Elliott that sounds NASTY! I can't imagine, and then Beryl remains too, jeez. You hang in there!

And thanks, I'm doing ok so far.
